Visitor FAQ

Where are you?

We are located in the Southern Hills neighborhood in south Shreveport, not far from either 3132 or the Industrial Loop. Our members come from all over Shreveport, Bossier, and surrounding areas, and we hope you will too.

What kind of church is Southern Hills?

Southern Hills a loving family of Christians. We are an independent, midsize congregation that is deeply committed to living out the message of the Bible. We welcome people from all walks of life to experience transformation one day at a time.

What kind of attire should I expect?

Southern Hills is a “come as you are” congregation. You’ll find a warm, friendly gathering where one member may be in a suit and another in jeans and an LSU shirt. We hope you’ll wear whatever you feel comfortable in so that you’ll be able to focus exclusively on the message of God’s love for you.

What should I expect during the assembly?

Each week our services begin with singing. Some call ours a “blended” service because we sing songs new and old, valuing both traditional and fresh expressions of faith. Everyone is invited to join in the worship as they feel comfortable to do so.

Our time together also includes prayer, communion, teaching, announcements, and an offering. As our guest, we do not expect you to contribute to the offering.

As you enter the auditorium you will receive, for your convenience, a printed sheet showing the order of our service for that Sunday.

How often do you have communion and who can participate?

We serve communion each week. We do so because we believe that central to our gathering is remembering the sacrifice and victory of Christ. Communion, like Thanksgiving dinner, is also an opportunity to remember that those with whom you share the meal are your family.

Anyone may participate, whether a member or a guest.

What is a Church of Christ?

Historically, Churches of Christ, along with Christian Churches and Disciples of Christ are part of the Stone-Campbell Movement, also known as the American Restoration Movement. This refers to churches in the early 1800’s who wanted to unify Christians of all types on the foundation of the early church’s example in the New Testament. Important emphases include the significance of the Bible, baptism, and communion.

Like any tradition, the history of Churches of Christ has its highs and lows. Each Church of Christ is autonomous, and, as a result, one Church of Christ may vary from another in significant ways

Participating in the life of our community is the best way to get a sense of who Southern Hills really is. You may also find the articles on our story or our theology helpful.

How do I get connected?

For most people, the first step is coming and participating in a Sunday morning service. Another step is Sunday nights in a Bible Study discussion group. Whether you want to dive right in or take your time to check us out, please feel free to do so.

Joining a church family where one is accepted but also challenged to grow is incredibly important, and we appreciate the step of faith you are considering.
